History of Nike’s collaboration with Sacai

The collaboration between Japanese brand Sacai and Nike really conquered the sneaker world at a rapid pace, especially when the beloved sacai x Nike LDWaffle debuted in 2019. They were created by Japanese designer Chitose Abe. Abe has been perfecting her art and creating the brand since 1999.

Nike and sacai began an ongoing collaboration long before the famous LDWaffle model saw the light of day. The nss G-Club developed a comprehensive schedule for the Nike x sacai shoe collaboration.

Nike first met with Chitose Abe and sacai in 2015, creating a collection for women with NikeLab.

The Birth of the first sneaker collections from sacai & Nike in the form of stylized versions of the Air Max 90 and Nike Dunk High Lux. The first to be released were three futuristic yet minimalist Nike Air Max 90 shoes, all in laceless versions.

Cult models conquer the sneaker world

Mfour years passed and the sacai x Nike LDWaffle era began. Designer Reba Brammer and her team proposed using these models in an upcoming collaboration. Colors such as yellow, blue, black and white or navy and red dominated the design.

Later that year, both hybrid designs received a second color palette, this time in two attractive black and white schemes for both the Blazer Dunk and LDWaffle.

Sacai and Nike continue their collaboration with the all-new sacai x Nike VaporWaffle. The combination of the 1983 Nike Pegasus and Nike Vaporfly running models has resulted in a highly modernized yet nostalgic shoe.

The deconstruction-inspired look, like previous collaborative models, provides a uniquely complex layered structure with braided laces. Two colorways were released: Sail with fuschia White and Black with white details. Other colors were seen on the catwalk in Paris – Tour Yellow and Villain Red.

Later still, Sacai models were developed in conjunction with the Blazer model. Also created were the LDWaffle in collaboration with the Fragment brand and the Vaporwaffle in collaboration with UNDERCOVER. Each of these collaborations was original in its own way and different from the classic releases.
